My Top 10 Episodes of The Legal Mastermind Podcast

It has been a pleasure speaking with some of the top minds in the legal community over the past year.  For some of our guests, The Legal Mastermind Podcast was the 1st podcast they’ve ever been on, for others coming on podcasts are part of their daily routine. While each guest has offered their unique perspectives into their minds and expertise, these 10 were my favorite.

About the Guest:

Bryan Sklover is a DJ for 101.1 WJRR in Orlando and a PA Announcer for the Orlando Solar Bears Hockey Team. He is also a teacher at the Connecticut School of Broadcasting.

Why I Picked This Podcast:

Becoming a confident speaker is almost a full-time job. Those you speak publicly can tell you from experience that practice is the true key to unlocking your potential for public speaking.   Brian sat down and gave our audience tips and specific methods to becoming not just a confident public speaker but a confident speaker in general.  Running meetings, answering client phone calls and even Zooming are all aspects of public speaking.  As a bonus, Brian also discusses the tools and software he uses to produce great quality audio.

About the Guest:

Harlan Schillinger is known as the godfather of legal marketing. He started out in the legal advertising industry in the 70’s creating commercials before anyone else was doing it.

Why I Picked This Podcast:

On the podcast we drill down on filling the needs of your clients.  Identifying a gap and then focusing on that specific need is ignored as a general practice too often.  Many times, people are just copy cats and do what others are doing.

We also discuss operating your business like a sports franchise and creating a job for everyone on the team. You draft or hire specific people to perform certain functions for your team.  If you want to win the Super Bowl, your entire team needs to be on the same page and working as one to accomplish the same goal.

About the Guest:

Ken Hardison is the founder and President of PILMMA. Ken produces a ton of great content for lawyers, ranging from Webinars and Mastermind Groups to Conferences and Blog Content.  Ken is also the author of several legal marketing books.

Why I Picked This Podcast:

One topic we drilled down on during the podcast was the secret to success.  We chatted about what separates the most successful people vs the ones that kind of just get by.  I could tell from our conversation that Ken truly cares about giving back and offering value to his clients and in every aspect of his working life.  He stated that if he was not giving back 10x value, then he was not doing his job.

About the Guest:

Keith Newstrom is a long-time friend. We were asking for months to come on the podcast and he finally jumped on.  This was the 1st podcast Keith had ever spoken on.  Keith has a wealth of knowledge gathered from his time at Find Law, Thomson Reuters and now Intake Conversion Experts.

Why I Picked This Podcast:

The idea of purchasing leads is a great one, but is a viable?  We also talk about the importance of refining your intake process to make sure you are set up for optimal conversion.  We also briefly discuss his thoughts on why directories are still relevant and the value of tracking leads from these sources.

About the Guest:

Kwame Christian is the director of the American Negotiation Institute.  I came across Kwame browsing Ted Talks, really enjoyed his presentation, and then reached out to see if he could share his experience with our listeners on the Legal Mastermind Podcast.  We have actually had him on the podcast twice now. He has authored the book “Nobody Will Play With Me” and gives frequent advice on negotiating and dealing with issues in the workplace.

Why I Picked This Podcast:

I could really tell Kwame loves what he does and believes 100% in the message he is conveying with his work.  One of the main points we cover is confidence and how building confidence is the baseline in any negotiation situation.

Why I Picked This Podcast:

During this podcast we really focused on thought leadership and moved away from the traditional thoughts of what PR actually is.   One of the main takeaways from our discussion was why you need to respond to negative reviews and how to do so appropriately.
