Employee Spotlight: Tanner Mowery — Crafting Content and Curating Literary Passions

Meet Tanner

Tanner Mowery is one of Market My Market’s talented content writers. He has extensive experience creating website content, managing newsletters, handling client edits, and working on our social media team. Before joining our team, he worked at a company supporting nonprofit businesses, writing grants to assist with fundraising and development.

A Day In the Life of Tanner Mowery

What Does a Typical Day Look Like for You?

“I’m pretty stringent with my writing. I like to do three pieces a day, even if I have client edits or I’m doing social media. I always like to do my three pieces, so I start with those. For some reason, I can always write my best in the morning. I’m not even necessarily a morning person. It’s just when my head is the clearest.

“From there, I’ll tackle whatever my responsibilities are. I’ll take care of a couple of client edit tasks, meetings, or social media.”

How Do You Break a Creative Block?

“Lots of walking, lots of moving where I am, even if that’s in the house. I typically work at my standing desk. Right now, I’m at the kitchen table. I try to move places in the house, go to a coffee shop, or go on a walk. I like to give myself a little brain break and then reset.

“But I find that it really does make a difference, unfortunately. If you take the extra three minutes to treat yourself nicely, the work is better.”

What’s Your Favorite Project You’ve Worked On at MMM?

“I really enjoyed learning all about Storybranding with Katie and Isabel. It was really fun to take a class together every week. We got to sit together, learn, and share our takeaways with the rest of the team.

“That whole thing ended up being almost a full year, from the class to the workshops to turning it into a rock and making templates and all that stuff. That’s probably been the most rewarding project.”

What Motivates You to Get Up for Work Every Day?

“Right now, specifically, I’m just trying to always increase my writing skills. I’d like to eventually get a master’s degree—something related to English. I want to experiment with my writing and continue learning different ways to express myself. That is what gets me up, currently. That’s brewing in the next year or so.”

If You Could Have an Unlimited Supply of One Thing, What Would It Be?

“Books would be my answer. I have to cap the amount of books that I can hold just because of apartment space. I’ve tried to move with a lot of books, and it is hell on earth. They take up all your box space. If I’m not totally in love with something, it’s hard to justify it. So, I’d love to be able to collect books, not have to pay for them, and not have to worry about space.”

Where Do You See Yourself in the Future?

“In 15 or 20 years, I see myself as some college professor, maybe eventually going down that route. I think in five years, realistically, I’d like to be completing the Master’s program, wherever that may be. Hopefully, I’ll still be at MMM because I can write, and it’s flexible. I enjoy the team and know they support people who’ve gotten their Master’s degrees.

“I’d like to be in the Northeast for sure. But my long-term goal is to return to Orlando, get a Florida bungalow, and be done with my Master’s degree or working toward it. But I think in five years, hopefully, I’ll be in the Northeast for a little bit. It’s cliche, but I would love to be in New York, anywhere around the city. I crave a walking city.”
